Museum Shop of Wood Inlay
In the old city center, on two floors of the restored Palazzo Pomarici Santomasi, it is a rich collection of furniture and objects of the typical Sorrento craftsmanship, with valuable pieces of furniture from 400 to 800 of the national masters and Sorrento Inlaid Wood, this is the Museum Shop of Wood Inlay.
The Inlaid is a technique which still are present on the territory about seven hundred skilled artisans who continue the historical processing with a discounting of design and processing steps.
A Museobottega “as used to define its founder, the architect Alessandro Fiorentino” in which explains the techniques of working by the “mosaic” to “re-growth”, the materials used, the decorative themes, with original exhibits and vintage photos of the artisans in the various stages of processing. A technical and artistic journey, which culminates with the preparation in the upper floor of the structure of angles and nineteenth century environments of the noble houses of Sorrento, with studies, wonderful “secretarial”, bedrooms, relaxation areas, and particular pieces such as games containers collective, to the new contemporary works proposed by some of the major national and international design as Portuguese, Sawaya, Morandini, Alison, Mendini, D’Alisi and the same Fiorentino.
A structure that is part of a design process that architteto Alessandro Fiorentino sums. “The Museobottega represents a new model museum, a multipurpose facility aimed at the enhancement of artistic craftsmanship sectors which, in addition to a past to be documented, have still to be confirmed in a production time and retrained in content. In the structure hypothesized, care cataloging and exhibition of the historical production is the introduction to a wider program that does not want to be limited to only memory; it proposes to organize training courses within their handicraft sector, and to develop an autonomous production, using the techniques and materials that belong to the best tradition of that fund. This renewed production culturally and signed by Museobottega, to protect the artistic value of the offer, will be sold not only in the annexes to the commercial spaces manufacturer museum but in other museums.
The museum’s collection includes a series of paintings by Italian and foreign artists 800, such as Carelli, Pitloo, the Fox, Colemann, Shchedrin, supplemented by prints and period photographs.
